ROBERT CLYMER, MULATTO SLAVE

| GERMANTOWN, PHILADELPHIA, PA

Robert was owned by Dr Christopher Witt, a renowned doctor who lived in Germantown, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania.  Dr Witt died in 1765 and in his will manumitted Robert, giving him property-including a house, and other household items, plus tools.

I would like to know when Robert was purchased by Dr Witt.  An article at the Germantown Historical Society, unsourced, says "that Dr Witt went to Phila in 1745 and came back with Robert".

Robert died probably December, 1816 in Philadelphia.  His will named some of his children, but his estate was only left to his daughter, Barbara Hirschfield or her children (there are many variations of this name) and his son Jacob as executor.

Another son, George, wrote a letter in 1869 (copy at G'town Hist. Soc) naming all of Robert's children, including my ancestor, Archibald Clymer of Philadelphia.

Any original or sourced information would be appreciated to continue this story.
