Sepember 24, 1913 | Evansville, Indiana

Ernest Small enlisted in the U.S. Navy on Septeber 24, 1913 and he re-enlisted in 1916 at Evansville, Indiana.  He was sent to Goat Island, California where he served as 1st Class Electrician and Gunner's Mate.

Death

March 4, 1918 | At Sea

He was on board the CYCLOPS when it was hit and sunk by a submarine according to the Gold Star Honor Roll.  According to the links, there is some debate as to whether the boat was actually sunk by a submarine.
