 As a kid, I was told that Daddy guarded the German POWs. He had a perimeter that he traveled each day.  I don't if it was a jibe, but I was told that Daddy spent more time in the brig than the Germans.

Daddy told me that he was on his way to Europe when WWII ended. His ship was  New York harbor when the news came.
