Charles M. Levertt was born in Kentucky, but his mother was from Newburg, Warrick County, Indiana.  He worked as a farmer before he enlisted in the U.S. Regular Army in January of 1915 in Evansville, Indiana.  He was sent to Jefferson Barracks, Missouri and was transfered from there to Ft. Monroe, Virginia.  He was assigned to Company C, Coast Artillery Corps, 60th Division.  He sailed overseas in April of 1918.  Charles M. Levertt died on October 15, 1918 from would received in action.  He is buried "somewhere in France" according to the Indiana War Records Gold Star Honor Roll 1914-1918 book published by the Indiana Historical Society in 1921.
