Military Service

| Camp Taylor, Kentucky

Henry Michael Kappermann was a farmer before he entered military service on March 29, 1918 at Boonville, Indiana.  He was sent to Camp Taylor, Kentucky where he was assigned to the 18th Company, 7th Battalion, 159th Depot Brigade.  He was transferred to Camp Mills, New York, and there assigned to the Supply Company, 47th Infantry, 4th Division.  He embarked on October 7, 1918.  He was killed in action in the Meuse-Argonne offensive October 7, 1918.  Buried in the Argonne American Cemetery, Grave 176, Section 107, Plot 4, Romagne, France.

The Newburg, Indiana American Legion Post is named in his honor.

In the newspaper article link, the article describes Kappermann's best friends as Oscar S. Hartig and Henry John Winternheimer, both distant cousins of mine. All three men died during the same week.
