John sneaked into the Navy at sixteen

1940 | Muskegon, Michigan

John Stanley Malinowski came from a desperately poor family.  He left school and joined the U. S. Navy in 1940 at the age of sixteen by claiming to be older. His purpose was to provide some income for his family.  Consequently, he was only seventeen when the Arizona was sunk, one of the very youngest people on board.
