Erasmus Crane

Erasmus  enlisted in the Union Army as a Private on February 3 1864 at Lewisburg, Arkansas in Company H, 3rd Cavalry Regiment Arkansas. He was eighteen years old. He wast 5' 8 1/2" tall, had gray eyes, light colored hair, he had a light complexion. He was a farmer.              Two years before his father and brother Lewis enlisted in the Union 1st Battalion, Arkansas Infantry. During their time in camp they became very ill and along with their regiment was sent to Benton barracks in St. Louis. Lewis was to succumb to his illness on Oct. 13, 1862, he was twenty years old. Erasmus father Martin survived his illness and was returned to duty from the hospital November 22, 1862.
