310th Bomb Group, 381st Bomb Squadron, B-25 Mitchell Pilot in WWII, serving in the Mediterranean Theatre and completing 70 Combat Missions.

Pilot Al Vosburgh, Captain from the 310th /381st flew 70 combat missions starting with low-level sea sweeps and ending with medium altitude missions over Italy in 1944. He died at age 91 Sunday, November 20, 2011. He is survived by Emily Patricia Vosburgh his wife of 66 years and five children Mark, Barbara, Stephen, Lorelle and Megan, fourteen grandchildrenand three great-grandchildren. Services in the Fairfield (Connecticut) Grace United Methodist Church in December.

Albert E. Vosburgh, age 91, of Fairfield and formerly of Darien, beloved husband of 66 years of Emily (Pat) Coyne Vosburgh, passed away peacefully Sunday, November 20, 2011. Born in New York City the son of the late Albert E. and Elizabeth Vosburgh, he was a Fairfield resident since moving from Darien in 1984. Mr. Vosburgh served as a captain and pilot in the 12th Army Air Force Division during World War II. He flew over 70 combat missions in the Mediterranean theatre of operations and was awarded a number of commendations including the Air Medal and the Distinguished Flying Cross. A graduate of New York University, he received a Master of Business Administration degree from Wayne State University, Detroit. He retired after 40 years of service as the National Sales Manager for the Bigelow-Sanford Carpet Company. Following his retirement Mr. Vosburgh worked as a sales representative for the Bellbridge Carpet Company of New Zealand. While in Darien he was a member of the Darien United Methodist Church; currently, he was an active member of Fairfield Grace United Methodist Church, where he was a member of the United Methodist Men's Club. Mr. Vosburgh served on the Advisory Council of the Southwestern Connecticut Agency on Aging, was a member of the Fairfield Senior Center Association Board, and for many years chairman of the Lifelong Learners at the Fairfield Senior Center. He was a member of the Fairfield Gaelic-American Club. Survivors in addition to his wife Emily Patricia include five children, Mark A. Vosburgh and his wife Ruth of Wading River, NY, Barbara V. Omohundro and her husband Dan Omohundro, MD of Fairfield, Stephen J. Vosburgh and his wife Rebecca of Hoboken, NJ, Lorelle V. Foulds and her husband John of Ridgefield, and Megan V. Saliterman and her husband Victor of Mendham, NJ; fourteen grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held on Friday, December 2, 2011 at 3 p.m. at Fairfield Grace United Methodist Church, 1089 Fairfield Woods Road, Fairfield. Entombment at Oak Lawn Cemetery will be private, and calling hours have been omitted. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Fairfield Grace United Methodist Church.
