Theresia Woerner Pennartz

Theresia Woerner Pennartz was born 25 November 1881, in Ratcliff, Logan County, Arkansas. She was the daughter of Phillip and Eva Frey Woerner. Phillip Woerner was born on 5 May 1849, in Lauf, Baden District of Germany. The Woerner Family have been tracked back to 1750 and have lived to the present time in the small community of Lauf, a fruit and grape growing area. 

On 28 November 1905, Theresia Woerner married Herman Joseph Pennartz in Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Charleston, Franklin County, Arkansas.

Theresia Pennartz is still remembered as a gracious hostess and a good cook. Part of her skill in cooking was gained from Mary Hertlein Rowden, owner and manager of the famous Rowden Hotel in Paris, where Theresia Woerner worked as cook for three or four years prior to her marriage.

Herman and Theresia Pennartz were the parents of nine children.

Theresia Pennartz, 78, resident of Charleston, Arkansas, died on 15 February 1957, a Friday night, in Chicago following a heart attack. She had been visiting in Illinois and Wisconsin with cousins.

She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Katheryn Geesing of Riverside, California and Mrs. Eva Williams of Long Beach, California; five sons, Phillip of Poteau, Oklahoma, Augustine, Julius, and Jack, all of Charleston, Conrad of Tulsa, Oklahoma; three brothers, Gus Woerner of Fort Smith, Arkansas, Leo Woerner of Heavener, Oklahoma and Otto Woerner of Charleston; three sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Elskin of Long Beach, California, Mrs. Marie Watson of Shawnee, Oklahoma and Mrs. Catherine Boozeman of Fort Smith, Arkansas; 17 grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Herman Joseph (1933), sons Herman James (1933) and Lenus Nicholas (1951).

Funeral Mass was held at 09:00 a.m. Wednesday at the Sacred Heart church with Father Alphonse Mueller officiating. Rosary service was held Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. at Smith Mortuary Chapel. Burial was in Sacred Heart cemetery under the direction of the Smith Mortuary.
