1966-1967 — Vietnam
John was in Charlie Battery, 1st Battalion, 12th Marines, 3rd Marine Division, from 1966 thru 1967. He was the TD-15 bulldozer driver, he dug the holes for the trucks and company tents below ground level. Because of the holes he dug, we Marines survived the first artillery battle with the North Vietnamese Regular Army at Gio Linh, DMZ Vietnam 1967. John was in many operations, clearing firing areas around our camp, and He made the walls around the guns. John was always the target for snipers, but he did not let them stop him from doing his job. Charlie Battery was six 105 howitzer guns pulled by trucks. John was well liked by his brother marines and a close friend of mine, we stayed in touch for years after Vietnam, He will be greatly missed.
Semper Fi Brother John until we meet again.
