Sip was with B Co 34th Armor of the 1st Infantry Division when he was killed leading his former tank platoon into a firefight during the Tet Offensive. His tank was hit by a rocket and Skip was evacuated but died on the way to the hospital.

Correction..Hugh was known by his friends as Skip.
