The Mighty "O"

Lt CDR Morisette was a pilot on the aircraft carrier USS Oriskany when a magnesium flare was ignited accidentally and caused other flares to ignate.  The resulting fire killed 44 men mostly pilots.  The USS Oriskany was on Yankee Station off Vietnam on October 26 1966.

A PS;  The USS Oriskany is still serving.  It serving as a underwater fish habit 20 miles off the Florida coast.  In a controlled sinking, approved by EPA, the aircraft carrier is resting in 210 ft of water with the control tower approximately 75 ft below the surface.  The Mighty "O".
