Robert "Bob" and Laverda Crouse, Married almost 68 years. "Bob" was a B-25 Mitchell Medium Bomber Pilot for the 310th Bomb Group, 379th Bomb Squadron, 57th Bomb Wing, 12th Air Force /AAC Mediterranean Theatre /WWII. Bob flew Combat Missions our of Corsica, France.
Laverda King Crouse;Born in Rutherford, Tennessee on Sep. 7, 1922
Departed on Feb. 21, 2011 and resided in Oak Ridge, TN. Laverda King Crouse quietly went to be with her Lord in the early morning of Feb. 21, 2011. She passed away at the Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge after suffering a fall that exacerbated the dementia and Parkinson's disease from which she was suffering.
Mrs. Crouse was born in Rutherford, Tenn., on Sept. 7, 1922.
She was preceded in death by her parents, David Bailey King and Ozella Garner King; and brothers, James Cecil King, Ralph David King and Robert Earl King.
She is survived by her husband of almost 68 years, Robert "Bob" S. Crouse; daughter and son-in-law, Betty and Bert Adams, with granddaughter, Gail, and husband, Alan Pugh; grandson, Craig and wife, Julie, and great-grandson, Nathan Adams; son, Robert Daniel Crouse and grandson, Tristan, and granddaughter, Channing Crouse; son, Terence Rogers and wife, Sherry Crouse; granddaughter, Wendy and husband, Mark Gabriel, and grandson, Dustin Crouse.
She is also survived by brother, Emerson, and wife, Alene King; sister, Grace and husband, Billy Joe Eakes; sister-in-law, Imogene King; sister, Clarice and husband, Billy Warren; sister, Dorothy and husband, Gene Clark; brother, Billy Joe and wife, Margaret King; brother, Larry and wife, Alice King; and brother, Wayne and wife, Vaneeta King; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Crouse was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who quietly got the most out of her life. She was a devout Christian who loved her work with the little folks at Glenwood Baptist Church until she could not give them the attention she felt they deserved and then she took her place in the Friendship Sunday School Class. She was a faithful attendee until two years ago when she was stricken with the conditions that ultimately led to her demise.
For many years, she volunteered at the Oak Ridge Hospital and worked part-time at a department store in Oak Ridge. She and her husband enjoyed traveling about the country by car as he attended meetings at the technical societies to which he belonged, and after his retirement from ORNL in 1989, they enjoyed cruising and traveling about the country to visit their children and seeing parts of the country they had missed.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 24, 2011, at Weatherford Mortuary in Oak Ridge. A funeral will follow at 8 p.m. led by Dr. Mark Walton, pastor of Glenwood Baptist Church.
A graveside service will be held at Oak Ridge Memorial Park at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 25, 2011.
