Reid Daniel Thompson, Jr. of Laurinburg passed away on Saturday, Nov. 20, 2010 at the age of 83. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 24, 2010 at the Richard Boles Funeral Service chapel officiated by the Rev. Gary Wilson and the Rev. Dale Deese. Burial will follow in Hillside Memorial Park. Mr. Thompson was born in Scotland County on Oct. 7, 1927. He was the son of Degrafton Reid Thompson and Ruth Williams Thompson. He was a veteran of World War II, proudly serving in the United States Navy. He was a dedicated employee, working many years with the John Manville Company, with Baucom Chevrolet in Bennettsville and retiring after many years of service from LOF/Pilkington Glass. He served as a longtime member of the First Baptist Church and also enjoyed attending the Laurinburg Pentecostal Holiness Church. He was a member of the American Legion, the Masonic Lodge #43 and Shriners. Reid will be remembered as a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Betty Chance and Brother William D. Thompson. Reid is survived by his devoted wife, Rosa Lee Thompson; his daughters, Margaret Britt and husband Ronnie of Little River, S.C., Nancy Griffin and husband Jimmy of Sumter, S.C., Donna Wendell and husband Warren of Savannah, Ga., and Kim Phillips and husband Richard of Laurinburg; eight grandchildren, Matthew Reid Phillips, Travis Daniel McGee, Robin Dale Britt, Lacey Ray, Leigh Ann Carter, Melissa Wagoner, Bobby Chance, and Chris Chance; and seven great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 23, 2010 at Richard Boles Funeral Service. The family requests that memorial donations be made in memory of Mr. Thompson to the Laurinburg Pentecostal Holiness Church, P.O. Box 1651, Laurinburg, NC 28353.
