This remarkable collection contains the name of every slave ever listed in a surviving estate inventory for Charleston, SC from colonial times to Emancipation. A plat of Blanford Plantation, made in 1786, is available online from The South Carolina Department of Archives and History (one of the collaborators in this project to digitize SC estate inventories!).

Artifacts Found In Combahee River Near Blanford Plantation

The SCIAA Underwater Archaeology Division office in Charleston is the curator of hundreds of ceramic fragments found in the Combahee river by diver Robert Black of Seabrook, SC. The ceramic shards were found near the site of the Heyward family plantations on the Combahee River, including Blanford Plantation [also rendered Blandford].
