James Joseph Sharpe

Hampton - J.J. Sharpe, 78, oldest attorney in Franklin County, former County Attorney here, died suddenly of a heart attach at his home at 8 p.m.  Wednesday.  He had practiced law here since 1909, and was active in Masonic Circles.  Survivors include the widow, a daughter, Mrs. Stanley H Vegors, Fort Wayne, Ind., son Lawrence of Milwaukee, Wisc., and Wilbur of Detroit, Mich.  

There are 7 grandchildren.  Mr. Sharpe was born in Pennsylvania Aug 8, 1873, and came to Franklin County with his parents.  Mr. &  Mrs. Moore Sharpe, in 1885.  He was graduated from the State University of Iowa School of Law and admitted to the Bar 1898.  Mr. Sharpe taught school for a time, then practiced law in Montezuma, then came to Hampton in 1906.  He was married June 20, 1899 to Lillian Ehret of Iowa City.
