Quentin Toler

Quentin Randolph Toler enlisted in the United States Army on 20 Sep 1940 at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. He joined the Parachute Group at Fort Benning, Georgia. He completed Parachute Training and qualified as a Parachutist on 18 Aug 1941.

He was temporarily assigned to Company B, 502nd Parachute Infantry, where he was promoted to Corporal beginning 1 Apr 1942. He eventually was assigned to Company H, 503rd Parachute Infantry, and on 20 Oct 1942, left the United States for the Asia-Pacific Theater.

According to his separation papers, Quentin was a parachutist signal NCO, made parachute jumps in close proximity to enemy lines on Markham Valley, New Guinea, Netherlands Indies, Corregidor, and the Philipine Islands. His mission was to establish eommunications with companies and batallions. It was during his jump on Corregidor (16 Feb 1945) that he broke his leg and was awarded the Purple Heart.

Other decorations and citations he received were the Asiatic Pacific Theater Campaign Medal with 4 bronze service stars, American Defense Service Medal, Philippine Liberation Ribbon with 2 bronze service stars, and Distinguished Unit Badge.

He returned to the US on 27 Jul 1945 and was honorably discharged from Fort Bragg on 4 Aug 1945.
