Obituary- Isaac Best

Lafayette County, Missouri

Isaac Best, An Old Resident of this County, Died Last Week.

Isaac Best died at the home of M.C. Jones, East of Odessa, the home of his daughter, Mary, Aug 20, 1924, at the age of 83 years, 6 months and three days, after four weeks of serious illness.  He was born  near Knoxville, Tennessee, Feb 17, 1841 and was reared in the community.  He was the fourth son of Col. John Best, of the Best family of Tennessee.  During the war he served in the Federal Army and was discharge at Knoxville.

He made a profession of faith was baptised into the fellowship of the Baptish Chuch soon after the Civil War and lived quiet and consecrated like to the time of his death.  He was married to Miss Elizabeth Baker, of Georgia, in 1867 and to this union were born four sons and two daughters.

Mrs. M. C. Jones, Odessa; Henry Best, Kingfisher, Ok., Joseph Best, Lexington, Samuel F Best, Mayview, Mrs. W.L. Christy, Bates City and John R Best, Mayview, Missouri. 

His wife preceded him to the Great Beyond January 21, 1901, he deceased leaves to mour his death two brothers and two sisters.

D. Best, of Chilhowee, Missouri, and Dr. P. M. Best of Kansas City, Mrs. Wm Kerr, Knoxville, Tennessee and Mrs. H.D. Davis of Clinton, Tennessee and 25 grandchildren and three great grandchildren and a host of friends and relatives in Tennessee and Missouri.

Funeral Services were conducted by Rev. G. W. Merrifield at Marvin Chapel, Friday, Aug 22, 1924 and the burial was Marvin Chapel Cemetery.
