Samuel Thomas McIntire

Mount Hope, WV

Fourth child of Andrew and Viola McIntire. Attended West Virginia University. Samuel served during WWII as a bombadier in the US Army Air Corp, 9th Air Force, flying in a B-24D Liberator. He was injured in a bombing run on Italy. He suffered severe injuries to his face and head, ultimately losing one eye. Received the Purple Heart on April 5, 1943. Honorable discharge Feb. 23, 1945.
