Lincoln assassinated in Ford's Theatre.
14 Apr 1865 | Washington D.C., USA
Following the success of a 2nd presidential election victory, President Abraham Lincoln was assassinated Apr. 14, 1865 while attending an opera at Ford's Theatre, Washington D.C. The conspirator, John Wilkes Booth, shot Lincoln in the head, then jumped onto the stage shouting "Sic Semper Tyrannus," an obvious claim to dissatisfaction with the government. The assassination occurred just days following the surrender of the Confederate Army, effectively ending the American Civil War.
