On Apr. 4, 1968, beloved Civil Rights leader Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated in Memphis, Tennessee.  This was a dramatic blow to the growing movement, but Dr. King's legacy lived on, despite opposition from other leaders.  He is most remembered for his "I Have a Dream" speech given on a March to Washington.
