First college newspaper begins circulation.

| New Haven, Connecticut

In a statement of freedom of speech, on Jan. 28, 1878, the Yale Daily News premiered, becoming the 1st college newspaper in the U.S.  The opinions of college students were now publicized, showing the growing influence of the younger generation in traditional society.

"Daily" is the operative word. The oldest college newspaper is "The Dartmouth" which premiered in 1799. http://thedartmouth.com/about/us
