Dorothy Robertson Travis, 85, a retired social worker with the Pennsylvania Department of Public Assistance, died Tuesday at the Quadrangle in Haverford, where she had lived since 1989.

She was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., and raised in Philadelphia. She was a graduate of Overbrook High School and University of Pennsylvania, Class of 1933. She was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority.

She moved to Merion in 1946.

She retired from her job in 1972.

Her father, Lawson Robertson, coached the University of Pennsylvania's track team in the 1920s and '30s, and coached the U.S. Olympic track teams in 1924, 1928, 1932 and 1936.

She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Walter Lennig Travis; three daughters, Susan T. Egnor, Cicely T. McGowin and Louise T. Battista; a sister; and five grandchildren.

A funeral service was held Saturday at the Johnston Funeral Home in Lansdowne, with burial in West Laurel Hill Cemetery in Bala Cynwyd.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Capital Fund of All Saints Episcopal Church, Montgomery Avenue and Gypsy Lane, Wynnewood, Pa. 19096.
