The Ridgway Record, Monday, July 1, 1996 Obit: James H. Olay, 69, of 208 Jackson Ave., died late Saturday evening at his residence following a brief illness. He was born Sept. 12, 1926 in Ridgway, a son of the late Lloyd R. and Elaine P. Bloom Olay. He married Noma J. Stewart on Oct. 30, 1948. She survives. A lifelong resident of Ridgway, he was a graduate of the Ridgway High School, class of 1945. He served in the US Army Air Corps and was a veteran of World War II. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps and was a veteran of World War II. Mr. Olay was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, where he served as an Elder. He had served as chairman of the board and as a member of the Northwest Savings Bank's board of Directors since the company merged with Ridgway Federal Savings and Loan Association in 1983. Prior to that, he served as a member of the board of Ridgway Federal savings since 1966. He currently served as Chairman of the Boards' Asset/Liability Committee and as a member of the Auditing, Personal and Pension committees. Mr. Olay served as president of the Elk County Regional Medial Center Board of Trustees, was a past president and member of the Ridgway Public Library Board of Trustees, was the finance chairman and former member of the Ridgway Borough Council and served as past president and an active member of the Budget Committee Elcam Inc., Vocational and Rehabilitation Center in St. Marys. He had served as past president of the Ridgway Post Prom committee, was the founding president and member of the board of the Elk County Historical Society Board of Trustees, was a member of the Ridgway School Authority and a member of the Society of Manufacturing Engineers Chapter 128. He was past president and member of the Ridgway Rotary Club, which presented him with the Paul Harris Fellow Award in 1989. Mr. Olay was a member of the Northwestern Pennsylvania Chapter of the Powdered Metal Institute, the American Legion Post No. 208 in Ridgway and the Free and Accepted Masons Lodge No. 379 in Ridgway. Mr. Olay had served as chief executive officer of Ridgway Powdered Metals Inc. and was a partner in J. and J. Enterprises before his retirement. He was also co-founder and served as chief executive officer and president of both North American Industrial Supply Inc. and Penn Sheet Metal Inc. During his career, Mr. Olay also served as a senior cost accountant for the Elliott Co., a division of Carrier Corp. and manager of Operating Services, Foreign and Domestic for IPM, a division of Allegheny Ludlum Industries. In addition to his wife of Ridgway, Mr. Olay is survived by his children, Diana L. Olay of Grampian, Kathryn L. Olay of Ridgway, Howard J. Olay of Kersey, John J. Olay of Ridgway and Audra L. Olay Mitchell of Ridgway; one grandson and three step-grandchildren; one brother, Glenn "Toot" Olay of Ridgway; and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Lloyd R. Olay Jr. and Richard P. Olay. A memorial service for James H. Olay will be held at the First Presbyterian church at 11 am Wednesday. Co-officiating will be the Rev. John Riley, pastor of the Shiloh Presbyterian church, and Fr. Gerald J. Harris, rector of the Grace Episcopal Church. Military honors will be accorded by the Ridgway Servicemens Honor Guard. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery. There will be no visitation. Arrangements are under the direction of the Thompson Funeral Home Ridgway. Memorials may be made to the Elk County Regional Medical Center Foundation or to the Elk County Historical Society.
