Hurricane Audrey

Louisiana

A search for newspaper items concerning hurricane Audrey did not yeild newspaper results from Louisiana.  In fact, there were Civil Defense advertisements claiming that over 500 people died in the hurricane and the Civil Defense was rebuilding.  There were Texas newspapers with a singular item and a South Carolina newspaper with a singular item.  No other Louisiana based newspapers offered articles, that I could determine, concerning hurricane Audrey.

Louisiana missing

| Leesburg, LA

After having found a transcript in the LAGENWEB archives concerning a pilot who had been found in the lower parishes and learning of his burial place, I conducted a Footnote search for "crash landing Louisiana". Unfortunately, there were several hits (8-9) from the Footnote Team, of former residents of Louisiana, whose names appear on the Vietnam Memorial ~ some were recovered some not.  The name of the person found in the late 1940's is not known, but the transcript indicates his burial in First Cemetery, Cameron Parish.  I blogged it earlier this year (prior to May 09).

"In 1946, the skeleton of an airplane pilot still fastened in his seat belt was found on Broussard Beach. His unidentified remains were buried here..."  Transcript, LAGenWeb USGenWeb Archives

I'm not certain if this person was ever identifed.  It would be great to update the transcript with a name, especially since this appears to be a World War II era plane crash. And a victim who has yet to be identified.  If you know the name of the burial, I would appreciate your contacting me.
