Chattooga County

| Holland, Chattooga County, Georgia

In March of 1876, John Thomas (Tom) Barker bought land on Kincaid Mountain near Holland, Georgia to build a home for his family. Although the Barker family name has died, their descendants still treasure this land.

Tom and his wife, Linnie L. Blake, came to Chattooga County from neighboring Floyd County.  Tom was a Confederate veteran, having served in the 29th Georgia Infantry.  He was captured during the Battle of Franklin (Tennessee) and interned at Camp Douglas, Illinois, for the remainder of the war.  After his release, he walked back to Georgia.  He and Linnie were married August 26, 1866 in Floyd County, Georgia.
