Lewis J Geerlings, DNB 10 May'44 Corsica /WWII

| Corsica, France

Lewis J Geerling was a Captain in the 57th Bomb Wing, but to his men and staff, he was the "Good Doctor Geerling" and it is believed he was a Surgeon at the Hospital on Corsica.  Although we do not yet have a picture of him, nor if he was assigned to as specific Group, we do have memories from the men of the "Good Dr."

Dr. Capt. Lewis J Geerling was the Co-Pilot of a routine Courier Flight on Corsica, (Several Reports list him as Pilot) carrying 57th Bomb Wing Personel and a Red Cross Correspondent Lady, Carolyn Chapin.  The ship crash was due to extreme bad weather, the B-25 #42-53371, the 321st Bomb Group, 447th Bomb Squadron Ship, the "Deathwind" was a Combat Veteran and free for use that day.
