Matthew L Godshall 1895-1980 US Army in FRANCE
1942 | France
From Brad Hedrick, IN his Family Tree we have several VETERANS;
GRANDFATHER; Matthew Godshall was living at 368 Court Street, Doylestown PA when he recieved an "Old Mans Draft"...
( Grandfathers and service. Both my grandfathers were in the Army during WWI. Mom's Dad -- Matthew Linford Godshall was stationed in France, with Dan Atkinson and other Doylestown boys. We have some letters that he wrote home, both while stationed in the US and overseas, that I want to scan so we all will have electronic copies. It is so interesting to read of what was new -- the "aeroplanes" buzzing overhead and dropping bombs, riding in an "automobile" on a base. Dad's Dad, Walter Hedrick, I don't believe went overseas. I believe he served (somewhere) as a wireless operator, which were in demand, and apparently he did well. Somewhere I have a picture of him laying on his bunk reading a book. It is uncanny how much he resembles our son Matthew -- at least as seen in an old photo. Mom is the holder of the familyphotos, and I need to get serious about scanning them with my sibs.
