John Chard's Civil War Military Service Records

| Union City, Branch County, Michigan

 John Chard enlisted in and served as a private in the Company D, 1st. Light Artillery Regiment of Michigan on January 4, 1864.  He mustered out at Jackson, Michigan on August 3, 1865.  He enlisted in Union City.  After his death from war related illness, his wife Ophelia applied for pension on 21 March 1885 and after years of sending additional paperwork to the government, she was finally awarded a pension.  Official notification arriving two weeks after her death on 08 April 1890.
