WW II | PENNSYLVANIA
FREDERICK WESLEY DITTMANN WAS MY FATHER. HE SERVED IN THE US NAVY DURING WWII. SERVED AND RETIRED AFTER 30 YEARS AS CAPTAIN. MANY OF THOSE YEARS WERE RESERVES. HE WAS A HISTORY EXPERT ON CIVIL WAR AND HE SPOKE TO VARIED GROUPS AROUND THE COUNTRY, MOSTLY EAST COAST. HE WAS PRESIDENT OF CIVIL WAR SOCIETY OF PHILADELPHIA. MY FATHER WAS BORN IN PHILADELPHIA AND DIED IN SPRING HOUSE ESTATES PA. I HAVE A LETTER FROM A CHARLES Charles L. Dufour was an author and writing a book on the Civil War in 1959 and asked my Father to collaborate on it...I looked it up on Amazon and found it!!!! The Nights the War Was Lost...so I ordered it. He was a twin...his twin was Joseph E. and died of diptheria at age 3 1/2. I have photos.
He grew up as a Boy Scout and became a leading Scoutmaster. I have a booklet all about this.
he served in USN abroad WWII for 4 years, intelligence for 2 years and 2 years in Canal zone. Retired as Captain at 30 years.
He was President of the Civil War Society in Philadelphia......
Was public speaker on Early American and Civil War history.
Member of Rotary, Masonic Order, Navy Reserve.Charles L. Dufour was an author and writing a book on the Civil War in 1959 and asked my Father to confer and share in it...I looked it up on Amazon and found it!!!! The Nights the War Was Lost...so I ordered it. I have the letter in my possession from Charles to Wesley.
HIS GRANDFATHER, JOSEPH EMLEY SERVED IN THE CIVIL WAR AS A SOLDIER AND WAS AWARDED THE GRAND ARMY OF REPUBLIC MEDAL AT DISCHARGE IN 1865-UNION SIDE. I HAVE ORIGINAL DISCHARGE PAPERS.
