Japanese surrender

I was born in the sixties, but for some reason always had a connection with events of the second war to end all wars.  Maybe it was the stories of my mom's uncles who fought on opposite sides of the globe against a common enemy or maybe it was weekends watching John Wayne war movies with my dad and brother.  Either way I have always taken an interest in anything related to WWII.  What are your thoughts about the end of the war?
