Anderson, Thomas Smith, 6th New York Cavalry, Company H. After the war ended, the 6th New York Cavalry became the 2nd Regiment of New York Provincial Cavalry Volunteers on June 17, 1865. ( Reference: The Roster of the 6th N.Y. Cavalry as published by the Adjutant General of New York and The Pension Record Applications of the United States for Civil War soldiers found in the National Archives, Washington, D.C. ). Thomas continued to serve in Company H of the 2nd Regiment until they mustered out at Louisville, Kentucky, on August 9, 1865. Thomas was born in Guelph, Ontario, April 12, 1842. His father, John Anderson, died when he was 12 years old. The 1861 census of Eramosa Township, near Guelph, show Thomas, at the age of 19, to be living with his widowed mother Janet. On March 4, 1864 he mustered into service with the 6th New York Cavalry under the name of Thomas Smith. His unit was at the Battle of the Wilderness on May 5 & 6, 1864. On January 18, 1865 he was wounded in the chest at Loudoun Valley, Virginia. After the war Thomas Smith returned to Lockport, New York. He remained there until 1870 when he moved to Hamilton, Ontario, and changed his name from Thomas Smith back to Thomas Smith Anderson. On January 18, 1870, Thomas S. Anderson married Mary Jane Chapple, who was born in England. Thomas was a member of the William W. Cooke, Grand Army of the Republic ( G.A.R. ) Post No. 472 in Hamilton and was made Aide de Camp on October 7, 1901. He died on February 13, 1913 and is buried along with his wife Mary in Hamilton Cemetery

Born in Bristol, England. Died in London, Ontario on October 9, 1911. Cause of death: Arterio sclerosis and cardiac arrest. Occupation; Finisher.

James was extensively wounded at the battle of Antietam. Deaf in his left ear after the battle, he was shot through the throat and ear on his left side during the battle and then clubbed in the head. He was crippled all his life. In his own words, his head was always drawn forward and he was never able to pull his head and neck up straight ever again.

He is buried in Mount Pleasant Cemetery and Crematorium

Evans, John E.,1st Regiment, Wisconsin Cavalry Volunteers, Company L. John mustered into service in January 1864 and served until the end of the war, mustering out on July 19, 1865. John was born in Wales in 1834. After his parents died he moved to Ireland and lived with his grandparents. During this time he served in the Irish Republican Army. In 1856 John emigrated to Canada and lived in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, where he married Marie Hinkley/Heatly. Marie was born in 1826 in Dublin, Ireland, while her parents were visiting there. Their home was in London, England, where her father was an organist at a local church. John and Marie moved from Sault Ste Marie to Peoria, Illinois, and in 1860 their first child was born. After the Civil War was over the family moved to Minnesota where their second child was born in 1866. John and Marie returned to Canada in 1909 and lived in Saskatchewan where John died on October 25, 1912. Pitt, George Washington, 85th New York Volunteers. 2nd Lieutenant, Company E. Born in Granger, New York. Was captured and escaped from a Confederate prison. Died April 28, 1921. Buried in Woodland Cemetery, London, Ontario. George was one of 10 children. The family were original settlers of the Granger, New York, area and were known as "Plymouth Pilgrims". The following death noticed appeared in the London Free Press on April 29, 1921:-"Pitt - Suddenly at Victoria Hospital on Thursday, April 28, 1921, George W. Pitt in his 86th year. Funeral private from his late residence, 190 Wharncliffe Rd. South London, Saturday, April 30. Service at 2 o'clock. Buried in the "DARCH" family plot ( Grave unmarked )." Rabb, Charles, ( Unit being researched ). A newspaper obituary states that Charles was born in Ireland and served in the Civil War as an officer. On December 20, 1887 at age 58, and a widower, he married Eliza McAllister at St Andrews Presbyterian Church in Smith Falls or Perth, Ontario and they lived in Wolford, Ontario. Wafer, Francis Moses, Surgeon, Union Army. Buried in St. Mary's Cemetery, Kingston, Ontario. He was a resident of Pittsburgh County, Canada West. He attended Queen's University until he joined the Union Army as a surgeon in 1863. He witnessed the battles of Chancellorsville, Gettysburg, Morton's Ford, Petersburgh and the Confederacy's surrender at Appomattox Court House. He returned home and finished his medical degree. Wagner, John, 12th New York Cavalry, Company E ( "Ira Harris" Regiment ). Mustered in September 1864 under the alias of John Hogan. Honorably discharged and mustered out in July 1865 at Raleigh, North Carolina. During the war he was gravely injured in a charge against confederate cavalry during the Ethridge Raid near the town of Colerain, North Carolina, when he was thrown from his horse and became buried under a falling horse charging from behind. Taken to Plymouth, N.C. he was nursed for three weeks by Jane Armstrong in her home, under the direction of a medical officer from a nearby Federal Army artillery unit. Jane was the widow of a Confederate soldier and on February 22, 1865 she and John were married. John was born on June 4, 1817, the son of two Irish immigrants, John and Bridget Wagner. John died on December 16, 1902 and Jane died on December 9, 1911. They are buried together in Lakeview Cemetery, Leamington, Ontario. Watson, Donald ( aka ) Davis, Donald Watson, 13th U. S. Infantry Brigade. Born near Londonderry, Vermont, on November 23, 1845. Died June 6, 1906. Buried in Union Cemetery, Fort MacLeod, Alberta.

Weatherbee, Joseph H., 6th Wisconsin Infantry. Born in Prince Edward Island. Died April 24, 1903. Buried in Necroplis Cemetery, Toronto, Ontario.

Weiler, Andrew, 1st Regiment United States Infantry, Company G, enlisting as a Private on June 15, 1863 in the 7th United States Infantry, Company A, re-enlisting as a Private in June 1866. Andrew was born in New Germany, Ontario, November 12, 1843. ( New Germany was renamed to Maryhill, Ontario ). His occupation was artificer ( a skilled or artistic worker or craftsman ). He fought at Gettysburg, The Wilderness, Spottsylvania and at the Battle of Richmond Virginia. He was wounded three times and was hospitalized in a field camp at the Wilderness, near Gettysburg and in Jacksonville, Florida. After two enlistments he served over five years and mustered out in 1869 at Richmond, Virginia. Andrew returned to Maryhill and died October 11, 1916. He is buried in Saint Boniface Cemetery, Maryhill, Ontario, along side his wife, Frances Seifried, who died at the age of 73 on July 28, 1918.
