Isaac E. Young High School, New Rochelle, New York, Class of 1942.
In 1942 there were three High Schools in New Rochelle, New York. They were the Original High School and the Albert Leonard High School, both on North Avenue. The third High School, Isaac E. Young, located on the Shore Road, graduated a class of Seniors for the first time in 1942. The attached Images were taken from that new High School graduating class Year Book "Castle Echoes" of 1942.

We the class of 1942 of the Isaac E. Young High School, New Rochelle, N. Y., with a heavy heart, caused by the ending of our six years of learning in this, our beloved institution of education, do hereby publish our Last Will and Testament, dily revoking and making void all former wills or promises made by us collectively or individually.
We hereby appoint Mr. Donald Ziegler as the Executor of our estate and request that he carry out and enforce all provisions stated herein.
We give, devise, bequeath, and leave our vast estate as stated in the attached document.

The Yearbook Staff
1942 | Isaac E. Young High School
The Yearbook Staff working conscientiously, without any pattern to follow, achieved a publucation to be proud of and serve as a model for future classes to follow.
Their message was the hope of the staff will serve as a record of all of the memories of our years at Young and it will be regarded as your own yearbook to take pride in always.
Thus was generated the first yearbook of the Isaac E. Young High School; THE CASTLE ECHOES.
Senior Prom Committee

One of the highlights of the Class of 1942 was the Senior Prom.
The South Sea Island motif and soft lights created a pleasant atmosphere.
The music of Tommy Peter's band added the final touch to the sucessfull affair.
Castle Courier

11 March 1941 was the date of the first issue of "Castle Courier."
Fourteen more issues of the "Castle Courier" had been printed by the staff of the paper by the end of the 1942 class year.
The Corn Harvest of 1942

There were two plays presented by the Senior Players.
The first play presented on 9 June was titled "Those Were the Days."
The second play was titled "Fireman Save my Child." It was a tear jerking melodrama where the downtrodden flower was rescued from the clutches of a deep dark villain by the upright noble hero. (That plot does sound a bit familiar)
Student Organization

The Student Organization in its first year were faced with the difficult task of writing a constitution and getting established financially.
The first year of the Student Organization was a successful one,
Young's Band

Mr. Bryant Minot transfered from the Albert Leonard school in 1934.
In 1940, as a Junior High School Band it received a one rating in the State Finals.
In 1941 the band received a two rating although the school did not yet have a senior class.
Football Team

1942 was the first year of W.I.A.A. competition.
The Young football team under the coaching of Mr. Harold McPhee and the captaincy of George Straehle put up a stiff fight at each game.
The traditional Thanksgiving Day game with the Albert Leonard High School ended in a thrilling tie.
Baseball Team

At the beginning of the season Coach McPhee was faced with the problem of finding a new infield and a catcher.
The team deserves all of the credit which the students and faculty members can give.
Basketball Team

The most notable thing about the team was the playing of Sam Pine.
Sam was the County high scorer and was picked for the all county team.
The main reasons that Young did not do well during the season was the lack of reserves and height. At times there were no more than eight on the squad. Considering the obstacles the team played very well.
Hockey Team

All twelve contests were played at Playland Casino, in Rye, New York.
Practices were held in the gymnasium, and on outdoor ice as weather permitted on Carpenter's lake.
The team, under the leadership of Mr. Thomson, was very unseasoned but enjoyed several closely contested contests.
Bowling Team

Bowling was the most sucessful sport of the year.
Tying for second place in the County Tourament and missing first place by only four pins.
Track Team

Young's track team provided stiff competition in every meet it was entered in this year.
In the field events many points were picked up, the pole vaulters, high jumpers, and the shotputters being particularly outstanding.
The mile relay team was supriseingly strong. This quartet was among the best in the County.
Swimming Team

The swimming team had completed in four meets, all with champion teams.
Although the other teams had experienced and excellent swimmers, our team made a good showing. Charles grosso paced the tem with a splended record.
Girl's Athletic Council

The Girl's Athletic Council represented the activities of the Girl's Sports at Young.
A variety of sports were made possible for the girls who were interested. These sports consisted of: hockey, soccer, volleyball, basketball, baseball, badminton, tennis, and archery.
Cheerleaders

Any one of the members will tell you that to capture and hold the audiences attention is a hard job.
Special attention should be given to the co-captains, Manvel Schauffler and Shirley Scofield.
