Confederate Service

James F. Hammond enlisted in the Confederate Army in May of 1864 in Macon, Georgia(Union Railroad Station).

He served with Company B, 5th Georgia Infantry during the Mountain Campaign of north Georgia and later in the Atlanta Campaign. His last known service was rendered in the defense of Macon, Georgia during Sherman's march to the sea.
