Homesteading in Nebraska
Early 1870's | Hendley, Furnas County, NE
Philip Meyers accompanied his three older brothers, Isaac, Henry and John on a trip from Pennsylvania to the Beaver Valley in Nebraska. He was too young to stake a claim for a homestead as his older brothers did, so he rode for the Pony Express until he could prove up on a quarter-section next to his brother, Isaac. Their land was just to the west of the town of Lynden, later called Hendley.
