His Name Is Victor

| Hendley, NE

Born on Armistice Day (Nov. 11, 1918) the baby boy born to S. L. "Wess" Meyers and his wife, Bessie was named Victor in honor of V. E. (or Victory in Europe) Day.  He grew up in the small Nebraska town of Hendley.  As a young man he helped his father in the insurance business.   He enlisted in the service in 1940 and, after his basic training,  was sent to Pearl Harbor, Hawaii.  He was killed in the Japanese attack on Hickham Field on Dec. 7, 1941.  He was buried in the Punchbowl Cemetery at Honolulu.  Later his unique story was featured in Ripley's Believe It Or Not
