Stories

Capt. Richard Mallon, pilot, and Capt. Robert Panek Sr., REO, were shot down in their F105 during a Wild Weasel mission. S/Sgt. Gregory L. Anderson ( a couple lies above here) was on the Jolly Green 71 that was attempting to pick them up when it was hit with an air-to-air missle from a MIG-21. Greg was apparently on board as a photographer to record the mission. He had only been in-country a few days when he was killed in action.

SEABIRD 02

While I can not specifically recall the morning of the flight, during January 1970, I was on the flight line and was either involved in the camera "up-load" of Captain Mallon's plane, or on the launch end of the runway when he and Captain Panek departed.

I do remember hearing reports that we had lost one of the 354th ships. A somber atmosphere seemed to fall over the base that morning.
