Dr. Thomas Lord

He was the son of Thomas Lord & Dorothy Bird, who were among the founders of Harford CT in 1636. Thomas married Hannah Thurston on September 28, 1652 in Wethersfield CT. Their marriage was blessed with four children; Mary, Dorothy, Hannah, and Sarah.

Thomas was a physician & surgeon in the colony. In 1652, the General Court of Hartford Colony passed a law affirming a contract with Thomas that he would receive a sum of 15 pounds a year to, "...use his best skill with the inhabitants of the towns upon the river, both for setting bones and in the practice of physic..." The doctor was also "freed from watching, warding, and training, but not from finding arms".

Thus Thomas Lord Jr. was the first physician to be licensed in the Connecticut Colony, and perhaps, in the New England colonies.
