Company G was named the "Black Hawk Rifles" as it was raised from men of Black Hawk, Carroll County Mississippi. This unit was joined to the 22nd Mississippi Infantry Regiment. The Captain was H. J. Reid. After the war he wrote a brief account of the Black Hawk Rifles that described their battles but also accounted for each soldier who joined or departed this Company.
