I sent this photo to a friend of mine in Derby, KS who retired from Boeing. Below is the comment he sent back to me: The fellow in the business suit is J. Earl Schaeffer. The Indian on the right should be Andrew Tallchief. It looks like the Indian on the left might be a woman, dressed up with a war bonnet. Things were pretty tight after the war and the plant nearly closed. Boeing went after the little 'Scout' contract but didn't get it. Instead, the B47 came along and they began designing and developing it. Boeing wanted to build the B47 in Seattle and leave Wichita out of it but the Air Force told Boeing that they already had the facilities in Wichita to build the plane and if they wanted the contract, it would have to be built in Wichita. That hurt Boeing's pride but the plane was built here plus, it outgrew this facility due to the cold war and Russian threat and it was built in several other places as well. Seattle has been trying to put the shuck on Wichita ever since. They've almost had us shut down a few times. We still have the military facilities here but the main plant was sold to Spirit who produces components for commercial planes, including Boeing. Andrew Tallchief's daughter was a renowned ballerina, known throughout the country and likely in many foreign countries. Andrew was the head of security.
