My great-grandfather Edward S. Sanford was an under-age soldier for the Union here at Rock Island, serving in the Illinois 133 Infantry, Company B, a 100 days company.

My great, great grandfather John J Akins was a prisoner of war here and died here 22 Jan 1864. He is buried here. He was from Berrien Co, Ga and was in the Ga 50th Infantry Co I.
