Gorrell's History - AEF Air ServiceIn the first World War, aircraft were first introduced to the battlefield. Recognizing the significance, Maj Gen Mason Patrick, Chief of the Air Service, instructed Col Edgar S Gorrell, Assistant Chief of Staff of the Air Service, to gather all information that would "assist in establishing Army aeronautics on a sound basis for the future." Thank you so very much for making this information available. Neither my Dad, nor my uncle have seen ant of this history. Their Father,(my Grandpa), was killed doing a stunt with some barnstormers in 1927. Dad was 2, his brother 4. Thanks again!
