Aaron S. Cardwell was the son of James L. Cardwell and Leah Saunders. He was born about 1841 in McNairy County, Tennessee. His family moved to Franklin County, Illinois about 1852. Aaron married Sarah Catherine Clark on 27 Jan 1857 in Franklin County, Illinois. He served as a Private in Company C of the 15th Regiment of Illinois Cavalry. Family tradition states that he died near Cornith, Mississippi on 25 Dec 1862. This document shows that his widow and minor child (Narcissus S. Cardwell) filed for a Civil War Pension on 25 Mar 1863. More research is needed to determine the actions of Company C, 15th Illinois Cavalry, USA during the month of December in 1862. Narcissus S. Cardwell, daughter of Aaron S. Cardwell, was born in the year of his death.
