12th AF, 57th Bomb Wing, 321st Bomb Group, 447th BS. 57thbombwing.com Edward C Ennis, back after 3 weeks in an English Hospital in Africa for injuries received in this 4 Oct. '43 Crash, soon after take-off, crashed into an olive grove coming to rest on a stone wall. 4 Oct. '43, the very 1st Mission from the mainland of Italy, the men and ships having been flown in the night before in the rain. One man died, Lt James Shaw. This was considered a "safe" landing as the bombs did not explode nor did the ship catch fire. Daughter, Barbi Ennis Connolly
