Actually, more often than not, the B-29's escorted the P-51's to Japan. Then the P-51's would chew up targets of opportunity on the ground.

Agreed. Shadow of B-29 above! Not a fried engine. Although very frequent with these engines.. not in this instance.

Agree.., if you look closely you can see almost a complete casting of a shadow of a buddy B-29 above. Not a burned out engine at all

This aircraft is actually, K-32 of the 330th BG, 458th BS of the 314th BW. She was based on Guam in the first half of 1945. She crashed on 22 June 1945, shortly after this photo…
